I'm Jody Doram

a passionate advocate for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and a retired educator and administrator with over 26 years of experience in the nation's second largest school district, Los Angeles Unified.

Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to supporting educators and fostering educational excellence. As a mentor to new principals within the district, I provided invaluable guidance and timely advice, ensuring their success in creating thriving learning environments. Additionally, I had the privilege of working as a Field Supervisor for Loyola Marymount University, where I supervised up to 10 new teachers across the greater Los Angeles area and the LA Archdiocese, nurturing their growth and development.

But my journey in education didn't stop there. As my grandchildren entered school age, I eagerly volunteered in their classrooms, staying current with the latest educational practices. Little did I know that 2020 would bring unprecedented challenges and transform my own home into a classroom for my Kindergarten and 5th grade grandchildren. This experience exposed me to the struggles faced by teachers, students, and families as they navigated the new normal of Zoom classes and virtual learning. Through trial and error, we persevered.

It was during this time that I realized a crucial component of student learning was being overlooked – the social aspect of learning in a group setting.

Students everywhere were missing out on the interpersonal connections and emotional growth that are vital for their holistic development. This realization fueled my passion for Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Today, SEL is recognized as an integral and critical vehicle for promoting optimal learning outcomes.

We believe in the power of combining literature and language to cultivate the Five Core Competencies within the Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework.

By incorporating our SEL curriculum into your educational practices, you can create inclusive and supportive learning environments that prioritize emotional well-being, empathy, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and positive relationship-building. Triana Doram West

Greetings! I am delighted to share my journey as a graduate from Cal State Long Beach University, where I majored in Speech and Language Pathology. My academic pursuits have instilled in me a deep appreciation for the profound connection between language, communication, and cognitive development.

However, my passion for holistic well-being extends beyond the world of speech and language. I am also a certified yoga teacher in multiple formats, driven by my unwavering belief in the powerful connection between the mind and body. Through my yoga practice, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative effects of integrating language and movement, harmonizing our inner selves.

Now, as I embark on a new chapter, I have dedicated my time and energy to producing curriculum and lessons that cater to students' needs for social-emotional development. I firmly believe in the power of literature and learning to nurture their holistic growth.

By combining my background in speech and language pathology with my expertise in yoga, we have discovered a unique and impactful way to connect the mind and body, fostering social-emotional well-being. Through carefully crafted SEL curriculum and engaging lessons, we aim to empower students to explore their emotions, develop self-awareness, and cultivate empathy and resilience.

Literature serves as a gateway to understanding ourselves and others, enabling us to navigate the complexities of life with grace and compassion.

By incorporating the power of storytelling, expressive language, and mindful movement, we create a nurturing space for students to delve into their emotions, build meaningful connections, and embrace their individuality.

My approach follows the CASEL 5 Core Competencies and the goal is to help cultivate skills and environments that advance students’ learning and development. I am committed to creating inclusive and supportive classrooms that foster growth and empower students to become confident, empathetic, and resilient individuals.
